Teaching on History of Buddhism, July 4th to 9th 2020

Dear dharma friends,

As you know, we had the plan to have the fifth year of the five-year course from July 4th to 18th 2020 at Danakosha Ling. However, due to today’s world situation, I have been considering this very carefully, and it seems difficult for all of us to gather together. Many in our sangha are traveling from different countries, and there can be problems with travelling, and at the moment Finnish regulations are more strict. Most importantly, all of us need to maintain good health. For all of these reasons I decided that the fifth year teachings of the course will be postponed to the next year.

When the five-year course was started, the curriculum included history of Buddhism, which we have not had time to teach yet. I will offer a teaching on the history of Buddhism through Zoom, and all the students who have been on the course during any of the years are welcome to participate. This summer’s course books contain all the Buddha’s teachings: Sutrayana, Mantrayana, Dzogchen yana, or you can say Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana. When we know all Buddha’s teachings, it’s very important to know how these teachings came about. Therefore, the knowledge of the history is very important to all of us. Because of that, this year I will offer a six day teaching of history of Buddhism from 4th to 9th July 2020, with two sessions per day. The teaching covers, first, how Buddha appeared and taught the dharma, second, how Buddha’s oral teachings were collected, and finally, how the great masters gave commentaries on and spread Buddha’s teachings.

We will offer an English and Tibetan pdf of the teachings for free to the participants.

The teaching is mainly intended for the students on the five-year course on relaxing in the nature of mind, but others may also be permitted to the history teaching. If you wish to participate, please send an application to info@danakosha.org

Please see below practical details from the course organizers.

I hope all of you are well, and see you soon!

With best wishes,
Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche
